MEDAWARE Project Workshop on "Urban Wastewater Treatment and Reuse Technologies and Systems", July 23, 2005, Agricultural Research Institute, Nicosia. Subjects discussed included: Guidelines for the quality of treated water in Cyprus, Code of Practice for treated domestic sewage effluent used for irrigation in Cyprus, General presentation of the MEDAWARE project and results in Cyprus, Wastewater Treatment Plant in Cyprus and Compact wastewater treatment plants for the production of high quality treated water for irrigation. Government Departments, such as the Agricultural Research Institute (ARI), the Water Development Department and the Department of Agriculture, as well as private companies involved in the wastewater sector, Sewerage Boards, Municipalities, communities, farmers associations and others attended this workshop.

JORDAN

Two-Day Training Workshop in Amman, Jordan on 29-30 June 2005 (Radisson SAS Hotel). This included 18 presentations done by scientists, engineers and concerned individuals about WWT and reuse of Reclaimed Water in Agriculture.
Several training sessions on site at two WWTPs (Ramtha and Wadi Hassan) followed by one day workshop about the use of the MEDAWARE Database, June 28, 2007

LEBANON

Workshop, June 21-22, 2005: Presentations made on various topics related to the MEDAWARE project on wastewater treatment and reuse to about 40 participants (programme). presentation 1, presentation 2, WW Reuse Systems & Problems (presentation 3), Benefits and Constraints of Combined Schemes (presentation 4), Success Stories (presentation 5)

Presentation on the MEDAWARE Project at a seminar held by SEMIDE/EMWIS, November 10th, 2005. About 30 participants attended from various institutions, government, NGOs, and universities.

Seminar presentation on the MEDAWARE project conducted to an audience of about 50 environmental graduate students of the American University of Beirut, December 20th, 2006.

A training activity, conducted by an NGO, took place on March 17-18, 2006 on the management, operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants and reuse of treated wastewater for irrigation. Participants included local villagers, farmers, potential operators and municipal representatives.

MOROCCO

Workshop: Wastewater Treatment & Wastewater Re-use. Organisers: Medaware (presentation and demonstration of research experiments in Morroco), 2005. Subjects covered were Wastewater Treatment and Reuse of Wastewater. Took place at El Jadida with 100 participants (researchers).

Training Course: Wastewater: Health and Socio-economic Effects. Organisers: Moroccan association of Limnology (AML), 2005. There were 100 participants from MEDA, Engineers (OCP) and persons responsible for the water management of Oum Rabii Basin. Took place at Settat.

PALESTINE

International

Workshop of a French/Palestinian Pilot Project for Waste Water Reuse in Agriculture:  Dr. Yunes Mogheir and Dr. Zaher Salem participated in this workshop held on May 24th, 2004, organized by the Environmental Quality Authority (EQA), the Palestinian Hydrology Group (PHG), the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA) , the Ministry of Agriculture and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Site visits to areas where wastewater reuse is achieved in agriculture took place before the start of the workshop. The participants of the workshop presented the objectives, activities and expected outputs of the project. The monitoring program of the two pilot projects was also discussed in the workshop.

National

Workshop 1: "Wastewater as a source for Ground Water pollution in Gaza", Environment Quality Authority, Gaza, 10th August 2005. Participation: Twelve Government Employees from the Palestinian Water Authority, the local government and the Ministry of Agriculture, two local NGOs and seven university staff/students.

Workshop 2: "Wastewater reuse in Gaza", Environment Quality Authority, Gaza, 30th October 2006. Participation: Representatives from the Palestinian Water Authority, Ministry of Agriculture and local NGOs. Focus on the water situation in Gaza, wastewater reuse technologies, present wastewater re-use projects and the socio-cultural aspects of wastewater re-use.

A two day training workshop, on the use of MEDAWARE software and database management, is to be organised in April 2007. Municipal staff and representatives of the Ministry of the local Government, the Palestinian Water Authority, University staff and wastewater engineers are expected to participate.

A one-day workshop on the MEDAWARE project results is to be organised in April 2007. Municipal Staff and representatives of the Ministry of the local Government, the Palestinian Water Authority, University staff and local NGOs are expected to participate.
