Introduction to Environmental Science: Multi scientific dimension of the Environmental Science, nature of environmental problems, Environmental Science and Chemical Engineering, principles of Ecology, Toxicology and Eco-toxicology, ecosystems, energy and material flows, geophysical cycles of elements, biodiversity, anthropogenic impacts to the environment. Atmosphere and air pollution: Structure and composition of the atmosphere, relation between sun and earth, air pollutants, sources and impacts of air pollution, types of air pollution, impact of the meteorological conditions to the air pollution, dispersion of pollutants in the atmosphere, global atmosphere problems (reduction of stratospheric ozone layer, greenhouse effects, acidification, climate changes). Aquatic environment and water pollution: Water characterization, water cycle, aquatic ecosystems, quality and uses of water, sources of water pollution (municipal and industrial wastewater), pollution of surface and underground water, ocean pollution, sampling and control of water quality, polluting parameters (organoleptic, physico-chemical, toxic, biological), eutrophication. Geosphere and soil: Rocks, minerals, chemical processes, characteristics, soil organic matter, sources of soil pollution and soil restoration, protection of soil. Solid waste and environmental pollution: Types, sources and impacts to the environment, polluting parameters, hazardous and radioactive waste. Environmental policy and legislation – Environment and sustainable development: Legislative framework and strategies for the confrontation of the environmental pollution, environmental quality standards, environmental indicators, information and participation of the public.
