1. What is the EMAS scheme?

EMAS is a voluntary scheme designed to promote continuous improvements of the environmental performance and compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements regarding the environment. To achieve this aim, industrial sites are required to use an environmental management system to monitor efficiency and to report on their achievements regarding environmental performance. EMAS is targeted at the industrial sector at present. In the future, it will also be applicable to other sectors.
